Submitting to more than one agent at a time

by Kieran
(Australia)

Hi, Pearl. Is it true you can't send a book to more than one agent at a time, that you must wait until officially turned down by one agent before trying another one?

ANSWER

Hi Kieran. You can submit queries to more than one agent at a time, but don't send the entire ms., and should one agent accept you as a client, contact the others to withdraw your request for representation.

Wherever you send your ms., you should follow the agency's guidelines for submissions exactly, or your ms. will not get read.

It is also imperative that your book is ready for publication before you look for representation. You can determine this by seeking professional advice.

If you have not already read this page, it provides useful advice on that: www.be-a-better-writer.com/publishing-agents.html
