How do I refer to my main character?

by Alex
(Manchester)

I am currently attempting to write a fiction novel in the first person voice of my main character but i wish to add a few extra chapters in the third person about another of my important charaters but i don't know how to refer to my main character within this context. I wish for this character to try to phone my main character but don't know whether to write 'he tried to phone her' or 'he tried to phone me'. Do you know if there is any specific way i need to write this?

ANSWER:

If I'm understanding correctly, you're asking how your second character should refer to the main character in the third person passages. If the third person passages are written from the perspective of your second character, he or she would refer to your main character by name in those sections, or with the usual pronouns used to refer to someone else. Depending on gender--he/she, him/her, his/hers, ours, theirs, etc..
