Distance learning program for a MA degree / Career opportunities in writing
by Reese
I would be grateful if you can help me answer the following questions: 1. I move quite often, so I would only be able to join a distance learning program. Do you know of any legitimate distance learning programs in the US, Canada, or the UK? 2. Can you please comment on general career opportunities with these degrees? Thank you! Your website is very helpful ANSWER UBC has an excellent distance learning program with their MFA (not MA) optional residency program which allows students to earn a degree from anywhere in the world. They have a session in the summer that allows students and professors to meet, but it's not required. Both the professors and the alumni at UBC are impressive, and I recommend it without hesitation. Off the top of my head, I'm not familiar with any MA distance learning writing programs, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. I've put links to other programs on this page, so it will be easy to check each program for distance learning options. An MA and an MFA will both get you a good job with a college that does not require its professors to have a PhD. However, if you go through the writing program and have success as a writer, you can teach in universities without a PhD, as your reputation as a writer will be more important. I'm glad you're finding the site useful. I hope to expand the degree section when I get a bit of time, and then you'll be able to see at a glance what each program offers.
