Expired, but watch for this prize next year! The prize, despite its name, is open to new writers from any part of the world. The writers can have had short stories or journalism published in the past, but they should not have had a novel published, in any language, previously. The prize is a fantastic £10,000 advance, payable to the author. Any agent fees will be paid separately (the author gets the full £10,000, subject to tax and the competition organiser will pay the agency fees additionally). The book will be published by Cargo Publishing (www.cargopublishing.com), an exciting publishing company, committed to finding new voices, finding new ways to publish them and then promoting them in a unique way. The book will be published as an paperback and an ebook. The winning author will have the backing of their marketing, sales and editing team - the prize has always had strong support from Waterstone's and many independent bookshops. The closing date for the competition is the 1st February and we will announce a shortlist by early May. This is a fantastic opportunity for new authors. the winner will be announced officially at the Dundee Book Festival in November, although the winner will be informed much earlier so that they can work with the editor to make sure the book is the best it can be. If you have any potential entries, please email the manuscript with a short (250 word) synopsis plus an entry form (available at www.dundeebookprize.co.uk) before 1st February. We're all looking forward to reading work from exciting new voices. http://www.dundeebookprize.com/ |
